But one woman is on a mission to change that with World Afro Day.}<\/p>\n<p>World Afro Day founder Michelle De Leon\u2018s 7-year-old daughter\u2019s love for her hair inspired her to launch a \u201cglobal celebration\u201d of textured tendrils. \u201cI wanted every Black girl to feel the same and I knew that most didn\u2019t,\u201d De Leon wrote in a post online about the story behind World Afro Day.<\/p>\n<p>She noted: \u201cI didn\u2019t want children to struggle anymore with thoughts of inferiority and insecurity about their hair.
