{The Governor of the Southern Province, Rose Mureshyankwano has called upon grassroots leaders in the region to work hand-in-hand with communities in order to sustain the prevailing peace and security.}<\/p>\n
The Governor made the call on June 12 in Ruhango District where he presided over a district security meeting.<\/p>\n
The security meeting was also attended by the Southern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gilbert Gumira and the mayor of Ruhango Francois Xavier Mbabazi and other local leaders in the district.<\/p>\n
Governor Mureshyankwano appealed to local leaders to work with security organs to prevent crimes and arrest people suspected to be indulging in criminal activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t entertain anything that can interfere with the current pace of peace, security and development,\u201d the Governor said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge you to strengthen your cooperation with security organs by identifying individuals involved in unlawful acts and share real time information with police to pave way for investigations. Community policing is for you to implement with the residents while working hand-in-hand with the police,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
ACP Gumira thanked local leaders who promptly share information with police on any potential security threats but noted that there is still more to be done to close any loopholes that may lead to lawlessness.<\/p>\n
He also emphasized the need to further get closer to the citizens and involve them in safety and security activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout the trust and involvement of the community, maintaining security and safety is difficult. Therefore, through community policing, it is everyone\u2019s responsibility to safeguard the welfare of their neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDo not disregard any information you receive about potential threats to peace and security but rather communicate with police for us do professional assessment and act accordingly,\u201d ACP Gumira said.<\/p>\n
