{The executive secretary of National Electoral Commission (NEC),Charles Munyaneza has asked Rwandans to update their information on the voters\u2019 register in time other than waiting to be added on additional lists as it happened in the past. }<\/p>\n

Munyaneza has told IGIHE that voters\u2019 registers have been availed at villages countrywide from 7th May where updates will be carried out up to 28th May 2017 to allow voters check whether their identifications are properly entered. <\/p>\n

\u201cRwandans are urged to visit their village offices during this three-week period to check their details on the voter\u2019s registers,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Munyaneza asked students that will participate in August elections to approach NEC employees near their residences or visiting them at schools to inform them where they will participate in elections. <\/p>\n

He reminded Rwandans to keep well previous voters\u2019 cards as NEC won\u2019t release new cards. Munyaneza unveiled that only new 690,000 cards were availed for new voters in 2017. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo voter\u2019s card will be issued a at polling stations. It will have been done before,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Munyaneza explained that those who lost cards can present identity cards while others without identity cards can identify themselves for their names to be checked on the register to be allowed to vote. <\/p>\n

Munyaneza explained that people with disability will choose a credible child below 18 years to vote for them. <\/p>\n

He said they also availed new papers called \u2018Braille\u2019 for such people following complaints that they want to vote themselves. <\/p>\n

Munyaneza reiterated that not all disabled people know how to use such papers but plan another paper enabling disabled people unable to use braille to vote in secrecy. <\/p>\n

Preliminary elections outcomes are expected on 9th August while final results will be announced on 16th August 2017. <\/p>\n

Over 6.8 million voters will participate in August 2017 elections raised from 5.7 voters of 2010. <\/p>\n

NEC has announced that no one will be allowed to be listed on additional election register except people who will be in regions where they are not registered like security personnel, journalists covering elections, observers, health practitioners at work, NEC employees, officials working at borders, diaspora who will be in the country then, and Rwandans who will be abroad during the period of elections. <\/p>\n
