{A man identified as Jean Baptiste Mugabe has been arrested in Nyarugenge District for allegedly forging driver’s licenses, which he was allegedly selling to different people.}<\/p>\n
The spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety Department, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda, said that they had information on Mugabe’s alleged criminal dealings, and was on the wanted list.<\/p>\n
“On May 4, we received information that Mugabe had forged driver’s licenses, which he was in the process of delivering them to owners, whom we also label as accomplices in a crime,” CIP Kabanda said.<\/p>\n
“Police officers caught him red-handed in Kiyovu of Nyarugenge Sector with two forged permits; one category B (for a vehicle) in the names of Francine Mukashema and category A (for a motorcycle) in the names of Silas Nsengiyumva,” he added. <\/p>\n
He went on to explain that the suspect was also found with an identity card in the names of Napoleon Sindikubwabo and several passport size photos for other people<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe these photos and IDs were meant to make other forgeries,\u201d said Kabanda.<\/p>\n
Police preliminary investigations have confirmed that indeed the suspect is involved in the illegal activity based on testimonies by some victims.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mukashema, told Police that she had given Mugabe Rwf200, 000 to get her a legitimate driver\u2019s permit after the latter made her believe that he was a police officer and in position to help her.<\/p>\n
In fighting forged permits, CIP Kabanda said that besides individuals they believe are either forging or holding forged permits, they also use the Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) which detects fake and genuine one.<\/p>\n
He called on the general public to desist from engaging in such illegal acts and go through the eased legal channels.<\/p>\n
