{"id":34299,"date":"2017-05-02T15:50:13","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T15:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenya-sportpesa-jackpot-winner-to-set-up-academy\/"},"modified":"2017-05-02T15:50:09","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T15:50:09","slug":"kenya-sportpesa-jackpot-winner-to-set-up-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenya-sportpesa-jackpot-winner-to-set-up-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya:SportPesa Jackpot winner to set up academy in Kakamega"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{SportPesa mega jackpot winner Samuel Abisai, 28, will dedicate a section of the windfall to helping his brother set up a football academy in Kakamega.}<\/p>\n<p>Abisai won Sh221.3 million after predicting correctly the outcomes of 17 listed games to become the first Kenyan ever to win the jackpot that was started in September 2016.<\/p>\n<p>He was raised in Sichilai in Kakamega but his parents, who had 11 other children, entrusted him to an NGO called Compassion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will use this money to uplift my family and the community at large,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Abisai, who has been working as a salesman for a Chinese company, says he will stop betting but advised people to bet more.<\/p>\n<p>SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri unveiled Abisai at Carnivore restaurant, Nairobi, together with Bonus winner Ahmed Ali, who goes home with Sh41 million.<\/p>\n<p>Abisai was accompanied by his two sisters and three brothers who acknowledged having come from a poor background.<\/p>\n<p>Karauri said the winner goes home with the whole amount, as a proposal to tax 50 per cent of a better&#8217;s winnings has not taken effect.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would also like to assure that we have in place a programme to ensure that the winners are taken through financial advise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to ensure that come two or three years from now, he will still look like someone who won Sh221 million and even better,&#8221; Karauri said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-19739 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/abisai_pix.jpg\" alt=\"SportPesa mega jackpot winner Samuel Abisai addresses journalists in Nairobi on May 2, 2017.
