You would come and find a woman holding a child and a sack of cabbages and tomatoes in the other hand. Such situation really hampers both child’s education and commerce,” he said.

“That is why we are building childhood development centers so that a mother can negotiate with managers of the center to take care of the child during the time she is conducting her doing business,” he added.

The cross border market in Rusizi district is expected to be completed in one year. The same facility is also available in Rubavu district and accommodates between 20 and 30 children on daily basis.

Children are received from 7:00 hours to be returned at 18:00 hours. A parent leaving the child is required to pay Rwf 300 for food and other needs.

The initiative was adopted following the matter of parents who would leave their children helpless at the border as they cross into DRC for business.

Kankindi Marie Rose, one of cross border business women told IGIHE that the initiative is welcomed as it will allow them leave their children in comfort and safety.

{The Ministry of Trade, Industry and East African Affairs (MINEACOM) has launched construction of a cross-border market in Rusizi district which will have buildings for early childhood development to facilitate child’s education.} The Minister of Trade, Industry and East African Affairs François Kanimba unveiled last Friday as he laid a foundation stone at the construction […]

[6
75
160

post-34138","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-homenews","byline-theophile-niyitegeka
["GET
