{"id":33635,"date":"2017-04-03T09:46:50","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T09:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/u-n-council-renews-congo-peacekeeping-mission\/"},"modified":"2017-04-03T09:46:46","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T09:46:46","slug":"u-n-council-renews-congo-peacekeeping-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/u-n-council-renews-congo-peacekeeping-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"U.N. council renews Congo peacekeeping mission, lowers troop cap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Despite a request by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to add two extra police units (320 officers) the council agreed to a Washington demand to keep the current total of 1,050 officers.}<\/p>\n<p>The resolution asks Guterres to explore \u201ctransfers of troops and their assets from other United Nations missions to MONUSCO\u201d if needed and subject to council approval.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first peacekeeping mission to be renewed since U.S. President Donald Trump proposed that Washington, the largest U.N. contributor, cut funding.
