{"id":3335,"date":"2012-09-29T03:54:13","date_gmt":"2012-09-29T03:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/malawi-president-salary-cut-by-30\/"},"modified":"2012-09-29T03:52:17","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T03:52:17","slug":"malawi-president-salary-cut-by-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/malawi-president-salary-cut-by-30\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi President Salary Cut By 30%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Malawi President Joyce Banda and Vice-President Khumbo Kachale have taken a salary cut to support the government&#8217;s current austerity measures.}}<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kachale announced the salary cut when he launched the Malawi Growth Development Strategy II and Economic Recovery Plan in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;The salary reduction by 30% is a demonstration by the leadership that it is supporting the austerity budget.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kachale said Malawi was on the economic recovery and would combine the two programmes to speed up the process.<\/p>\n<p>President Banda is currently attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where she took a delegation of 33 people, at the cost of about US$1 million.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kachale did not announce any reduction in other benefits or internal and external travel, which the new leadership is renowned for.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi is currently experiencing a renewed fuel shortage due to inadequate forex.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{Malawi President Joyce Banda and Vice-President Khumbo Kachale have taken a salary cut to support the government&#8217;s current austerity measures.}} Mr Kachale announced the salary cut when he launched the Malawi Growth Development Strategy II and Economic Recovery Plan in Lilongwe.
