{"id":3326,"date":"2012-09-28T06:42:44","date_gmt":"2012-09-28T06:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/we-finally-entered-kismayu-kenya-army\/"},"modified":"2012-09-28T11:51:31","modified_gmt":"2012-09-28T11:51:31","slug":"we-finally-entered-kismayu-kenya-army","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/we-finally-entered-kismayu-kenya-army\/","title":{"rendered":"We Finally Entered Kismayu&#8211;Kenya Army"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-1698 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/boat.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>{{The Kenyan army has finally entered the port city of Kismayu in the ongoing offensive against Al Shabaab fighters.}}<\/p>\n<p>Sources of Kenya Defense Forces said Friday they had taken over Al Shabaab\u2019s stronghold in Kismayu but the fighters insisted they were still incharge of the port city.<\/p>\n<p>Kenya&#8217;s Military Spokesman Col Cyrus Oguna said that KDF forces stormed Kismayu at 2 am Friday but did not confirm any casualty figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe finally entered Kismayu in a joint operation both on air and ground,\u201d Oguna said.<\/p>\n<p>An Al Shabaab commander in Kismayu Sheik Mohamed Abu Fatuma however, dismissed the reports.<\/p>\n<p>He said,\u201cThe enemy using military boats have deployed hundreds of soldiers on the coast late last night and the mujahideen fighters are engaging in heavy fighting with them now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Al Shabaab\u2019s Twitter page said the Kenyan forces had tried to take over Kismayu unsuccessfully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c#KDF cowards attempt to attack Kismayo from the sea but the courageous Mujahideen thwart their attempts,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<p>Another tweet posted at 10 am Friday said \u201cKismayo remains firmly in the hands of the Mujahideen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other rebels and city residents told AFP the Kenyan troops were still on the outskirts of the city that they have been targeting for days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are not very close to the city because the coast where they are now is around nine kilometres (six miles) from downtown,\u201d another commander quoted by AFP said.<\/p>\n<p>Several Kismayu residents also said the Kenyan forces were still on the beach, where they came ashore from two ships escorted by helicopter gunships around 5 Km from the city centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{The Kenyan army has finally entered the port city of Kismayu in the ongoing offensive against Al Shabaab fighters.}} Sources of Kenya Defense Forces said Friday they had taken over Al Shabaab\u2019s stronghold in Kismayu but the fighters insisted they were still incharge of the port city.
