{"id":32712,"date":"2017-02-21T02:18:12","date_gmt":"2017-02-21T02:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/youth-to-converge-in-burundi-for-a-peace-run\/"},"modified":"2017-02-21T02:18:09","modified_gmt":"2017-02-21T02:18:09","slug":"youth-to-converge-in-burundi-for-a-peace-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/youth-to-converge-in-burundi-for-a-peace-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth to converge in Burundi for a peace run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Dubbed the Bujumbura Peace Run, the event is one of several activities to promote the Burundi peace process and East African Community integration.}<\/p>\n<p>The run, whose launch coincided with the start of the AMF Burundi Chapter last Thursday, is the brain child of a youth group Afrika Mashariki Fest (AMF).<\/p>\n<p>AMF is a regional youth platform that uses art and sports in its advocacy for the promotion of regional integration.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda\u2019s ambassador to Burundi Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza, who also as Dean of Diplomatic Corps was chief guest, thanked AMF for their efforts to mobilise youths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy using sports you are using the right medium to mobilise youth. Sport transcends boundaries with its power to unite and bring happiness.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The launch took place at Bujumbura\u2019s Bel Air Hotel also in the presence of the country\u2019s representatives to the East African Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Burundi\u2019s minister for East African Affairs Leontine Nzeyimana, Kenya\u2019s duputy ambassador to Burundi Sylvane Chongwony, Bujumbura Mayor Freddy Mbonimpa and Burundi Athletics Federation president Dieudonne Kwizera all welcomed the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here to preach peace, cohesion and patriotism to fellow youth as fundamentals of development of Burundi,\u201d stated AMF CEO Ronnex Kisembo.<\/p>\n<p>The youth have been taking a back seat in the region\u2019s integration, Kisembo noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is an urgent need for the youth to rise and become front runners of this campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kisembo thanked all authorities in Burundi for not only welcoming AMF but also embracing the idea.<\/p>\n<p>Fabrice Niragira will head the AMF Burundi chapter. Fidelite Ngenzi will serve as general secretary, Frank Ndisanze (treasurer), Landry Nokira (publicity), Aldine  Nezerwe (marketing).<\/p>\n<p>AMF was launched in Uganda in 2013.It has since staged two half marathons in Kampala.<\/p>\n<p>It spread out to Kenya last year where it staged a half marathon in Mombasa.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-18362 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/img3-703x422.jpg\" alt=\"Uganda\u2019s ambassador to Burundi Maj.
