{"id":32665,"date":"2017-02-18T23:47:37","date_gmt":"2017-02-18T23:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/youth-volunteers-hold-retreat-on-crime-prevention\/"},"modified":"2017-02-18T23:45:01","modified_gmt":"2017-02-18T23:45:01","slug":"youth-volunteers-hold-retreat-on-crime-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/youth-volunteers-hold-retreat-on-crime-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth volunteers hold retreat on crime prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Fifty-two coordinators and members of the executive committee of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing, yesterday, held a one day retreat to deliberate on various issues related to social protection.}<\/p>\n<p>The retreat held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru was presided over by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana.<\/p>\n<p>It was also attended by the National coordinator of Youth Volunteers, Justus Kangwagye, and the National Electoral Commission coordinator in Nyarugenge and Kicukiro District,  Rutikanga Jean Bosco.<\/p>\n<p>Held under a theme: \u201cEngaging the youth to promote service delivery\u201d, the retreat mainly deliberated on crime prevention, service delivery, role of community policing and social protection.<\/p>\n<p>IGP Gasana commended the youth for their significant role in fighting and preventing crimes, but reminded them that the \u201cjourney is still long and continues. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRwanda National Police values the role the youth play in activities of security and development; the country sees you as the future of this nation and that is a task you have to practically carry on in building a crime free nation,\u201d IGP Gasana said.<\/p>\n<p>He urged them to be the eye, ears and voice for justice, service delivery, accountability and transparency in their communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Police Chief asked them to tirelessly continue collaborating with Police and other security organs in bringing to justice criminals and achieving the national vision.<\/p>\n<p>Kangwagye, on his part, said \u201cthe most important factor in ensuring change is not the number of members but having focused members that are up to task.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that even those who liberated the country were not big in number but few organised people with determination.<\/p>\n<p>There are over 102000 members of the youth volunteers\u2019 organization countrywide, who include secondary and university students, and those who have so far graduated.<\/p>\n<p>It was created in 2013 by the youth themselves with an aim of contributing to the socio-transformation by fighting and preventing crimes in partnership with police and local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Rutikanga, on the other hand, appealed to them to play a big part in the democratic process especially in the forthcoming elections.<\/p>\n<p>Source:Police<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Fifty-two coordinators and members of the executive committee of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing, yesterday, held a one day retreat to deliberate on various issues related to social protection.} The retreat held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru was presided over by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K.
