{"id":32343,"date":"2017-02-06T00:33:57","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T00:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenya-ruto-camps-in-mombasa-says-war-on-drugs\/"},"modified":"2017-02-06T00:33:47","modified_gmt":"2017-02-06T00:33:47","slug":"kenya-ruto-camps-in-mombasa-says-war-on-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenya-ruto-camps-in-mombasa-says-war-on-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya:Ruto camps in Mombasa, says war on drugs intensified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The government will not relent in its efforts to eradicate drug and drug use in the coastal region, Deputy President William Ruto said on Sunday.}<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after attending mass at the Holy Ghost Cathedral Catholic Church, Mr Ruto expressed concern over high number of youths succumbing to drug addiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should pray for those indulging in this illegal business to change their way of lives and stop destroying our young people here (Mombasa),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Acknowledging that the government was facing challenges in fighting the drug menace, Mr Ruto asked Christians to join hands in the fight against the vice to save the youths.<\/p>\n<p>The DP&#8217;s statements follow the extradition of four suspected drug barons to the United States to face trafficking charges.<\/p>\n<p>Joint investigations between Kenyan police and Drug Enforcement Administration led to the arrest of Ibrahim Akasha Abdalla, Gulam Hussein, Vijaygiri Anandgiri Goswami and Baktash Akasha Abdalla.<\/p>\n<p>{{PRAY FOR IEBC}}<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he urged Christians to offer \u2018special prayers\u2019 to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials to conduct free, fair and credible polls on August 8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us as Kenyans require the space and chance to exercise our constitutional rights to vote for whoever we want without being coerced or intimidated through unorthodox means to vote otherwise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The DP noted that security had improved in the coastal region which had come under terror attacks due to intensified surveillance by security forces within and without the borders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must pay homage to our security forces for ensuring peace and tranquility prevail not only in Mombasa and its environs but the entire country and within our borders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, even after this year\u2019s elections and its outcome, Kenyans would still remain peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>{{DOCTORS&#8217;
