{Over 60 commercial cyclists in Gisagara District operating under their cooperative – COTAVEGI – have formed an anti-crime club through which they will take the lead in implementing innovative crime prevention and intervention efforts as part of their overall responsiveness to community safety and security.}<\/p>\n
The cyclists formed the club on January 19 following a meeting with officers of Rwanda National Police that focused on the role of cyclists in crime prevention and community policing.<\/p>\n
In her address to the cyclists, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP) Marie Chantal Uwambaye said; \u201cIt is a very positive message to see that cyclists in Gisagara coming together to find ways in which they can contribute to the safety of their communities by collectively fighting against crime and partnering with police to apprehend suspects.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe anti-crime club sets an example that together we can achieve a collective goal of community safety.<\/p>\n
Through this club we are positive that you will discuss how to also improve road usage by making all members accountable to traffic regulations,\u201d she added<\/p>\n
IP Uwambaye recognised that cyclists have been partners in crime prevention but this time, \u201cwe have no doubt your performance will be tremendous. Rwanda National Police is committed to supporting you with all means possible to ensure that we collectively achieve our goal of making Rwanda a crime-free nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Theogene Iraguha who was elected to lead the club said that the decision to form anti-crime club is to reinforce the existing cooperation with the police in community policing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis club will serve as a channel for us to exchange information about public safety and also ensure we collaborate with the police in fighting crimes in our neighborhoods,\u201d said Iraguha<\/p>\n
He added that; \u201cif our clients aren\u2019t secure we aren\u2019t secure either and our business will be affected. To ensure that we keep making money, we need to fight all sorts of crime at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
