{The government of Rwanda is set to start a three-month assessment to establish whether Lake Kivu flats are endowed with oil. }<\/p>\n
Oil has been discovered to exist at the flanks and in the rifts of Lake Albert connecting Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Tanganyika. <\/p>\n
Both lakes are located in the same Rift Valley region with Kivu which is between Rwanda and DRC. <\/p>\n
Lieutenant-Colonel Doctor Emmanuel Munyangabe, the Head of Geology and Mining Department at Rwanda Natural Resources Authority (RNRA) has told the media that Rwanda will have established the status oil in Lake Kivu by June 2017. <\/p>\n
Dr Munyangabe said that \u201cLake Kivu contains evidence of oil like warm areas in which they will draw much attention during the exploration process.\u201d He said that the temperatures are the same in degrees with the ones identified on lakes Tanganyika and Albert Lakes where oil has been found. <\/p>\n
The exploration will last three months from March to June 2017 when outcomes of the survey will be published. <\/p>\n
During the National Prayer Breakfast held on Sunday, President Paul Kagame said that he doesn\u2019t understand why neighboring countries with Rwanda can have particular natural resources not owned by Rwanda yet the countries\u2019 geomorphologies are the same and in close proximity. <\/p>\n
