{A security meeting in Karongi District held on January 3 resolved to double the efforts in community policing initiatives as one of the effective and efficient measures to fight and prevent crimes.}<\/p>\n
Crimes like domestic and gender based violence, trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs, child abuse and protection of the right of children, among others, were also highlighted as some of those that should be given emphasis to fight them due to their impact on the social wellbeing of the people.<\/p>\n
The security meeting presided over the district mayor, Francois Ndayisaba alongside the District Police Commander, Chief Supt. Tom Murangira, was also attended by 60 local leaders and representatives of security organs.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is important to work together for common interests in advancing a sustainably secure Rwanda. <\/p>\n
Development and security of communities depends on what we do as leaders to show the people the right way and make them custodians of safety,\u201d Ndayisaba said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the philosophy of Community Policing, we should further promote partnership, collaborative effort between the police and the community to more effectively and efficiently identify, prevent and solve that affect communities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
In reemphasizing the message, the DPC pointed out that there are individuals who devise means to disrupt neighborhoods which can be prevented through mutual partnership and involving every member of the public.<\/p>\n
He further urged them to encourage citizens to refrain from acts of facilitating or involvement in illegal acts of drug trafficking and smuggling.<\/p>\n
CSP Murangira emphasized the need for information sharing on crimes especially drug dealers, adding that it is an essential factor in \u201cquick response\u201d that subsequently supplements the \u201coverall ideal of crime prevention.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
