{Two suspected drug traffickers including a commercial motorcyclist were apprehended on Monday as operations and partnership with the public to break the drug supply chain continues to gain momentum.}<\/p>\n
At the time of the two separate arrests in Kirehe and Ngoma districts, they were found in possession of 14 kilogrammes of cannabis.<\/p>\n
One of the suspects; Jonathan Uwiringiyimana was arrested in Gahara Sector in Kirehe with 10kgs of cannabis, which was at the time concealed in a sack.<\/p>\n
Another suspect Jean Iyamuremye a motorcyclist in Ngoma was arrested in Mutenderi Sector at about 7:00 pm while riding a motorcycle RD 892N with 4kgs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese two suspects were actually apprehended by community night patrols \u2013 Irondo. In the case of Iyamuremye, he had concealed the narcotics in a school bag but in the same way, it didn\u2019t work out,\u201d Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi, police spokesperson for the Eastern Province, said.<\/p>\n
He commended another commercial motorcyclist, who gave information about Iyamuremye\u2019s criminal business, which led to his arrest.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have over the years seen what community policing initiatives such as Irondo, are capable of in crime detection and prevention, and arrest of criminals. No double effective community policing that involves everyone through real time information exchange, will continue to make communities safer and secure,\u201d IP Kayigi said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year has been impressive in as far as community policing and partnership with the public is concerned. We appeal to Rwandans to make the year 2017 outstanding in fighting crimes and promoting safety through fighting crimes like drug trafficking and abuse, GBV, child abuse and even corruption, which are high impact crimes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
