{The Northern Region Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) B\u00e9rtin Mutezintare met with over 600 commercial motorcyclists operating in Musanze District on December 28 and urged them to be active players in identifying and reporting criminals.}<\/p>\n
While speaking to the motorcyclists organised in three cooperatives \u2013 COTAMONO, COVATRAMO and COTRAMO \u2013 at Ubworoherane stadium in Muhoza Sector, he noted that the concept of community policing is theirs to implement as well and emphasized the need for fast information exchange whenever they suspect or witness anyone in any unlawful activities.<\/p>\n
He, however, warned them against facilitating criminality especially transporting narcotic drugs or drug traffickers<\/p>\n
\u201cIn case you suspect either a colleague or a passenger of being involved in a crime, they should report to the Police immediately because ensuring safety and security is everybody\u2019s responsibility,\u201d ACP Mutezintare said.<\/p>\n
He reminded them to abide by traffic rules and regulations and refrain from particular acts of recklessness and speeding, which in some cases result into fatal accidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have witnessed some cases where some of you carry more than one passenger, while others have no driver\u2019s license, motorcycle insurance, operate without helmet or reflector jacket, which should stop,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further warned them against drunk-riding and riding under the influence of drugs.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoads are public infrastructures and are used by everyone; your lives, passengers and other road users including pedestrians, matter, so you should ride in a way that the lives or others are considered and valued,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Safari Muberuka, the head of motorcycle cooperatives in Musanze, said: \u201cWe can\u2019t sit back and see what we achieved being destroyed, we must preserve our achievements. This is why we must be part of crime prevention.
