{"id":31399,"date":"2016-12-27T03:34:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-27T03:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/south-sudan-leader-strikes-the-reconciliation\/"},"modified":"2016-12-27T03:34:26","modified_gmt":"2016-12-27T03:34:26","slug":"south-sudan-leader-strikes-the-reconciliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/south-sudan-leader-strikes-the-reconciliation\/","title":{"rendered":"South Sudan leader strikes the reconciliation tone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has called for forgiveness and reconciliation among the citizens.}<\/p>\n<p>He said in his Christmas message, that only forgiveness and reconciliation could restore lasting peace to a country so devastated by civil strife.<\/p>\n<p>President Kiir said he was aware of the problems facing the people of South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Economic slowdown<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I fully understand your suffering, both as a result of conflict and economic slowdown due to the depreciating South Sudanese Pound,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>President Kiir further urged frustrated armed and non-armed groups to refrain from killing innocent civilians in their villages and in ambushes on the roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is no longer justifiable to continue to kill unarmed civilians in their villages.<\/p>\n<p>Human rights<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can no longer withstand the ambushes on highways against innocent travellers,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Juba Roman Catholic Archbishop Paulino Lokudu Loro called on the South Sudan leadership to respect human rights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There must be respect for human rights this coming year,&#8221; he said in his Christmas and New Year message.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-17315 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/kiir-2.jpg\" alt=\"South Sudanese President Salva Kiir.\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has called for forgiveness and reconciliation among the citizens.} He said in his Christmas message, that only forgiveness and reconciliation could restore lasting peace to a country so devastated by civil strife.
