{Commercial motorists and cyclists have been urged to be more responsible when transporting people especially during this festive season to prevent accidents.}<\/p>\n
While speaking to about 1000 cyclists and motorcyclists in Rubavu, the Western Region Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emmanuel Karasi, noted that such days that involve mass movement of people make transporters operate recklessly to scramble for passengers and to make more money, which is one of the major causes of fatal accidents.<\/p>\n
The meeting was also attended by representatives of public transport companies.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost road accidents in this period are caused by over-speeding, drunkenness and use of cell phones while driving or riding, dangerous acts that should stop to ensure safer roads and save life,\u201d ACP Karasi said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is need for a collective responsibility amongst road users of respecting traffic rules and reporting offenders in order to prevent avoidable accidents\u201d emphasized ACP Karasi.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn order for us to make our roads safer and enjoyable by users especially at this time of the festive season when lots of people are celebrating and travelling, drivers or cyclists and pedestrians should value and respect the lives of others,\u201d he noted<\/p>\n
The head of motorcyclists\u2019 union in the Western region, Sentibagwe Gafora thanked Rwanda National Police for the regular guidance rendered and efforts put in place to ensure public safety and pledged the Union\u2019s partnership and support in crime prevention to ensure that people enjoy safely during the festive season<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
