{"id":31041,"date":"2016-12-13T05:47:59","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T05:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/my-father-served-in-genocide-government-i\/"},"modified":"2016-12-16T00:06:07","modified_gmt":"2016-12-16T00:06:07","slug":"my-father-served-in-genocide-government-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/my-father-served-in-genocide-government-i\/","title":{"rendered":"My father served in genocide government: I apologize\u2013Minister Nsengimana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana has apologized for having a father who was a politician in the government that prepared and executed genocide saying it is embarrassing for his father\u2019s failure of doing anything to stop the 1994 genocide against Tutsi. }<\/p>\n<p>He made the apology yesterday as he addressed 800 local and Diaspora youth that attended the civic education \u2018Urunana\u2019 in Gabiro from 7th to 14th December 2016.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cMy father was a politician in the government that prepared and executed genocide. I apologize for it. Not having had courage to stand and tell them to stop what they were doing regardless of whether I would risk losing life. It embarrasses me,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I think how I felt comfortable while there were other children fleeing to rescue their lives yet I didn\u2019t intervene, I feel regret from which I gain strength to build the nation different from the one in which we grew up,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-17010 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/for_media_minister_of_youth_ict_nsengimana_addresses_the_youth_as_minister_of_sports_and_culture_looks_on___gabiro_ctc_12_november_2016.jpg\" alt=\"The Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana adressing the youth that attended the civic education &#039;Urunana&#039; yesterday.\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Nsengimana told the youth that he was warmly welcomed returning from refugee in DRC forests, taken through reintegration center, allowed chance to access school and developing himself. <\/p>\n<p>He said that he was not worth such opportunities if it was based on deeds of his father. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father was a leader at the time of genocide. I was born when he was the mayor of district until when I was 18 years.  I never got revenge for my dad\u2019s deeds.The kind acts to me became the first to embarrass me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Nsengimana said that all Rwandans have equal rights and opportunities. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father was mayor during the genocide.
