{"id":30711,"date":"2016-11-30T04:10:02","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T04:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/tigo-rwanda-partners-with-national-commission-for\/"},"modified":"2016-11-30T04:09:58","modified_gmt":"2016-11-30T04:09:58","slug":"tigo-rwanda-partners-with-national-commission-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/tigo-rwanda-partners-with-national-commission-for\/","title":{"rendered":"Tigo Rwanda partners with National Commission for Children to strengthen child protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{In partnership with Tigo Rwanda, the National Commission for Children (NCC), officially handed over 840 fully connected mobile phones to Muhanga District-based \u201cInshuti z\u2019Umuyango\u201d (Child Protection Volunteers) in order to facilitate them in their work.}<\/p>\n<p>Since 2015, the Inshuti z\u2019Umuyango programme, which has been launched in 11 districts nationwide, has worked to ensure that children are protected against instances of violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect.<\/p>\n<p>In order to further the child protection volunteer programme, Tigo Rwanda has given the NCC 1,500 free Simcards with airtime to be distributed in Muhanga and Nyanza District.<\/p>\n<p>Thanking Tigo Rwanda for providing the sim cards to the child protection volunteers, Esperance Uwicyeza, Programmes Director of TMM at the National Commission for Children, said;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProviding these fully connected mobile telephones is part of Government of Rwanda\u2019s strategy to protect the family and safeguard children\u2019s rights. These volunteers will ensure that children stay in school, as well as monitoring and halting the evils of child abuse and child labour. With the help of Tigo, the volunteers will be able to communicate with not only the local police when they see instances of child abuse, they will also be able to send reports about child welfare to the NCC\u201d, she commented.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of Tigo Rwanda, Desire Ruhinguka, B2B Product Manager, noted that the handover of the fully connected telephones was aligned with Tigo Rwanda\u2019s child protection objectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTigo Rwanda is very supportive of Rwanda\u2019s effort to protect children, both online and offline and today\u2019s initiative of giving mobile telephones to child protection volunteers is proof of that. This is another example of how mobile technology has the ability to improve the lives of everyone in the community\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to monitoring the welfare of children in their communities, these volunteers will be able to use their mobile phones to expand their digital and financial inclusion, through mobile financial products such as Tigo Cash\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s activity is another example of Tigo Rwanda\u2019s commitment to better the lives of all Rwandans. Just this year, we have, among other activities to better the community, donated over 700 Mutuelles de Sante cards to the most vulnerable people in Musanze and Huye District.
