{"id":30669,"date":"2016-11-29T01:46:45","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T01:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/tanzania-rwanda-for-boosting-women-posts\/"},"modified":"2016-11-29T01:51:17","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T01:51:17","slug":"tanzania-rwanda-for-boosting-women-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/tanzania-rwanda-for-boosting-women-posts\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania, Rwanda for boosting women posts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Rwanda and Tanzania have won accolades for involving more women in decision making.}<\/p>\n<p>African Union Commission commissioner for political affairs Aisha Abdullahi said Rwanda was the top most country in the world with women in decision making structures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Rwanda, women are visible by their presence in the state sphere, civil society sphere and the private sector at various layers of society from the national to the community\/village levels,\u201d Dr Abdullahi said.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech read on her behalf by AU Commission director of political affairs Khabele Matlosa during a human rights conference in Arusha, Tanzania, Dr Abdullahi called for greater \u201ccommitment and action to tackle the problem of low participation rate and poor representation of women in governance processes, in peace and security initiatives and in development programmes and projects\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In Rwanda, Dr Abdullahi said, women constitute 64 per cent of the legislature, 40 per cent of executive, 40 per cent of judiciary, 40 per cent of provincial governors and 38 per cent of district councillors.<\/p>\n<p>Tanzania enjoys more than 30 per cent of women\u2019s representation in parliament with its Vice President being a woman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage all other Member States of the AU to emulate Rwanda and Tanzania in respect of gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment,\u201d Dr Abdullahi said.<\/p>\n<p>Tanzania Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan officially opened the Fifth Annual African Union (AU) Dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-16698 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/womenpic.jpg\" alt=\"Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta (right) receives his Tanzania counterpart John Magufuli at State house, Nairobi, on October 31, 2016.
