{Two people identified as Triffon Niyonsenga, 46, and Hirwa Roger, 22, were arrested on November 23 in Nyamirambo Sector of Nyarugenge District in connection with forging and selling driver\u2019s license.}<\/p>\n
The spokesperson for traffic and road safety department, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda, said that the duo was arrested red-handed as they attempted to dupe a driver\u2019s license seeker.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got information from the would-be victim reporting a man, who was trying to dupe him promising to help him get a permit but demanding Rwf200, 000 in return.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is alleged that Hirwa, on finding out that the would-be victim was in the process of acquiring a driver\u2019s license, contacted him with assurance that he was in position to get it for him as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
On smelling a rat, the man, who had pretended to agree with Hirwa\u2019s terms, called the Police and he was arrested alongside Niyonsenga in an internet caf\u00e9, where the duo apparently was running their illegal business.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the time of their arrest, they were found with a number of forged permits holding varied particulars,\u201d CIP Kabanda said.<\/p>\n
\u201cForging a legal document itself is criminal and punishable by the law; but there are a lot of other consequences that such forged documents bring along. In general, holders of forged driver\u2019s license lack traffic related knowledge and they are likely to cause accidents and loss of lives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Article 609 of the Penal Code indicates that any person who forges or alters documents by forged signature or fingerprint, falsifying documents or signatures or impersonation, forging agreements, its provisions, obligations, discharged obligations shall be liable to a term of imprisonment ranging from five to seven years and a fine of Rwf300,000 to Rwf3 million.<\/p>\n
He commended the vigilance of the would-be victim and reminded the general public that processing and collecting a driver\u2019s license at all levels in done entirely by a candidate with no \u201cbroker.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
