{The government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and East African Affairs (MINEACOM) has signed performance contracts with traders in relation to improving and increasing exports. }<\/p>\n
The performance contracts were signed between the government and 19 export-based companies yesterday in meeting held at MINEACOM. <\/p>\n
The Minister of MINEACOM, Fran\u00e7ois Kanimba explained that the performance contracts are based on institutions\u2019 commitment to exporting specified quantities with the government support. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe agreements will see exporters and the government working together to increase exports,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Kanimba explained the performance contracts will bring fruitful results as long as stakeholders execute them properly.<\/p>\n
F\u00e9licien Mutalikanwa , an exporters\u2019 representative said that the performance contracts are a result of continued talks with the government and will enable a growth in export volumes. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe agreements will help the implementation process of growing the exports and we hope for positive outcomes. We will also be able to identify the challenges and address them squarely. It is a journey of building the body of exporters which has a role in the country\u2019s self reliance\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
According to MINEACOM, the value of exports increased by 1% last year while statistics of nine months of this year indicate that it has grown by 10 %. Rwanda targets to raise exports by 28%. <\/p>\n
