{"id":30558,"date":"2016-11-24T02:05:29","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T02:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/dengue-fever-kills-20-in-burkina-faso\/"},"modified":"2016-11-24T02:10:02","modified_gmt":"2016-11-24T02:10:02","slug":"dengue-fever-kills-20-in-burkina-faso","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/dengue-fever-kills-20-in-burkina-faso\/","title":{"rendered":"Dengue fever kills 20 in Burkina Faso"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Dengue fever has killed at least 20 people in the West African state of Burkina Faso, where about 2,000 cases of the disease have been recorded.}<\/p>\n<p>Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease which is prevalent in sub-tropical and tropical regions.<\/p>\n<p>It is a major cause of illness worldwide, causing about 100 million episodes of feverish illness a year.<\/p>\n<p>Its outbreak in Burkina Faso is causing alarm and officials are trying to avoid any widespread panic.<\/p>\n<p>One man told BBC Afrique&#8217;s Yacouba Ouedraogo in the capital, Ouagadougou, that the disease had killed his brother quickly:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My younger brother did not even have a chance to say what was wrong. We just found him dead,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>{{Rarely fatal}}<\/p>\n<p>Dengue fever particularly affects young children and adults, but is not normally fatal, specialists say.<\/p>\n<p>Most people who get it will suffer from headaches and fever.
