{"id":30302,"date":"2016-11-15T00:06:12","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T00:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/2017-elections-7-million-voters-95-domestic\/"},"modified":"2017-02-28T19:15:17","modified_gmt":"2017-02-28T19:15:17","slug":"2017-elections-7-million-voters-95-domestic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/2017-elections-7-million-voters-95-domestic\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 elections: 7 million voters, 95% domestic financing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Almost 7 million Rwandans are set to participate in next year\u2019s presidential elections that will be held for the 3rd time after the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.}<\/p>\n<p>Munyaneza Charles, the executive secretary of National Electoral Commission (NEC) has explained that preparations are underway. <\/p>\n<p>He said that they have sought and trained volunteers from across the country to facilitate elections and taught Rwandans on civic education.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Monday 14th November 2016 we\u2019ll start updating the voters\u2019 register,\u201d said Munyaneza. <\/p>\n<p>The updating will be followed by the last one expected few days before next year\u2019s elections. NEC explained that more than 6,900,000 Rwandans are expected to participate in elections including 250,000 individuals voting for the first time. <\/p>\n<p>The number of voters rose from 3,900,000 from the previous presidential elections in 2003. <\/p>\n<p>About 95% of the elections budget will be funded by the Rwanda government.  <\/p>\n<p>Munyaneza explained that funding almost the entire elections budget with internal resources is a way of promoting Rwanda\u2019s policy of self reliance.   <\/p>\n<p>About Rwf 5.5 billion will be used during the 2017 election preparation, a Rwf 500 million reduction from 2010 elections budget. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-16392 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/munyaneza-charles-umunyamabanga-nshingwabikorwa-wa-komisiyo-yigihugu-yamatora-5-6.jpg\" alt=\"Munyaneza Charles, the executive secretary of National Electoral Commission \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Almost 7 million Rwandans are set to participate in next year\u2019s presidential elections that will be held for the 3rd time after the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.} Munyaneza Charles, the executive secretary of National Electoral Commission (NEC) has explained that preparations are underway.
