{The Republic of Kenya is hosting the 2016 East African Community Field Training Exercise (FTX) “USHIRIKIANO IMARA”.}<\/p>\n

The two week FTX was officially opened on 11 November 2016 by the Kenya Defence Cabinet Secretary, Amb. Raychelle Omamo at the Kenya School of Government, Matuga, Kwale County, in Mombasa. Rwanda is represented by a contigent of 375 personnel coming from Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda National Police and Civilian institutions, all led by Brig Gen Aloys Muganga.<\/p>\n

In her remarks, Ambassador Omamo hilighted the importance of the the FTX in strengthening cooperation omong EAC Partner States. “Peace, security and prosperity are kept alive with the excellent cooperation of the East Africa militaries, and this avenue provides a perfect opportunity for the Partner States’ militaries to interact and exchange skills and knowledge that will eventually enhance capabilities of the forces”, she noted. \u201cThe training exercise is meant to enhance participants’ capacity in collectively addressing the emerging complex security challenges confronting our region\u201d, Amb. Raychelle Omamo further pointed out.<\/p>\n

The representative of the EAC Secretary General, Mr. Peter Kibuta, recalled that the Exercise is conducted on the platform of EAC Protocol on Cooperation in Defence Affairs. \u201cIt is in line with series of joint training exercises conducted on a rotational basis in EAC Partner States\u201d, he noted.<\/p>\n

The 2016 EAC FTX opening ceremony was attended by the Air Force Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Charles Karamba, on behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff. After the ceremony, the AFCOS visited and met the Rwandan Contingent at their Madibwami Camp, in Mombasa. <\/p>\n

Gen Karamba congratulated the RDF Contingent for the exhibited good preparations and camp layout. He urged them to maintain RDF values, ethics and keep in mind that the military is about culture, planning and execution.<\/p>\n

The Regional multi dimensional Exercise that started on 7 November 2016 brings together close to 2000 personnel (Military, Police and Civilian) from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda will officially close on 18 November 2016.<\/p>\n
