{Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) from the University of Rwanda College of Arts and Social Science (UR-CASS) in Huye District have been called upon to strengthen their effort in raising awareness and information sharing against crime as means to be preventive rather than dealing with the consequences.}<\/p>\n
The call was made by Inspector of Police (IP) Mucyo Rukundo, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Huye while meeting with about 100 members of youth volunteers on November 4.<\/p>\n
The meeting was also attended by members of national committee of RYVCP including Jean Bosco Mutangana, who’s in charge of training.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbuse of illicit drugs is still a big issue especially by the youth and we need to do more than we have been doing in combating the vice including increased awareness and identifying traffickers to break the trafficking ring,\u201d IP Rukundo said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy combating trafficking of narcotic drugs and ultimately abuse, we will also preventing other crimes that drugs bring about like domestic conflicts and gender based violence, sexual related crimes, assault, petty theft and even child abandonment or family neglect, \u201d he added.<\/p>\n

There are at least 800 members of youth volunteers in Huye District with 400 of them at UR-CASS.<\/p>\n
On his part, Mutangana noted that patriotism is one the guiding tools in supporting security and development activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the strength and the power as the youth to make change in our communities and as committed members, you need to be that voice against crime and an eye for development,\u201d Mutangana said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
