{"id":29964,"date":"2016-11-02T07:31:33","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T07:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/china-all-33-miners-trapped-in-blast-found-dead\/"},"modified":"2016-11-02T07:31:30","modified_gmt":"2016-11-02T07:31:30","slug":"china-all-33-miners-trapped-in-blast-found-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/china-all-33-miners-trapped-in-blast-found-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"China: All 33 miners trapped in blast found dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Investigation ordered after recovery of the bodies by rescuers at Jinshangou mine where the blast occurred on Monday.}<\/p>\n<p>All 33 coal miners trapped underground in a gas explosion earlier this week in China&#8217;s Chongqing have been found dead, according to Chinese state media.<\/p>\n<p>Two miners survived Monday&#8217;s explosion but rescuers working around the clock found no others alive at the privately owned Jinshangou mine, where the explosion occurred before midday.<\/p>\n<p>All bodies have been recovered and rescuers were shown bowing their heads in memorial for the dead.<\/p>\n<p>Gas explosions inside mines are often caused when a flame or electrical spark ignites gas leaking from the coal seam.<\/p>\n<p>Ventilation systems are supposed to prevent gas from becoming trapped.<\/p>\n<p>The State Administration of Work Safety ordered an investigation, sayin.those responsible must be strictly punished.<\/p>\n<p>Local officials in Chongqing also ordered smaller mines to shut down temporarily.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s mining industry has long been among the world&#8217;s deadliest.<\/p>\n<p>The head of China&#8217;s State Administration of Work Safety said earlier this year that struggling coal mines are likely to overlook maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>China is the world&#8217;s largest producer and consumer of coal but has announced plans to shut more than 1,000 outdated mines, as part of a broader plan to cut down on overproduction.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-16128 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/bef146f049424165b1e3d9d9a9c9fda5_18.jpg\" alt=\"Two miners survived the explosion but rescuers found no others alive\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Investigation ordered after recovery of the bodies by rescuers at Jinshangou mine where the blast occurred on Monday.} All 33 coal miners trapped underground in a gas explosion earlier this week in China&#8217;s Chongqing have been found dead, according to Chinese state media.
