{Security organs, local leaders and residents of Nyamagabe districts have vowed to enhance their partnership towards collective crime reporting and prevention.} <\/p>\n
The decision was part of the district security meeting held on October 31 and presided over by the mayor Philbert Mugisha alongside the District Police Commander (DPC) Superintendent of Police (SP) Fran\u00e7ois Segakware.<\/p>\n
It was also attended by representatives from other security organs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t have alarming criminal cases in Nyamagabe but we still need to enhance citizens watch, information sharing and taking part in all development activities as means of ensuring safety for all,\u201d said Mayor Mugisha. <\/p>\n
He rooted for tough measures against people who are involved in criminal acts and appealed to the public to work closely with security organs in crime prevention and reporting offenders. <\/p>\n
The DPC said that common crimes recorded in the district include distillation of illegal brew, assault as a result of drunkenness, petty theft and environmental crimes like illegal mining. <\/p>\n
\u201cMost of the crimes are linked to consumption of illegal brew which we believe can be stopped if we enhance our cooperation especially through reporting. If we combat these substances, the rate of crimes will definitely go down and in turn we will see more people\u2019s economic status rising,\u201d Supt. Segakware said. <\/p>\n
In fighting such offenses, SP Segakware, said, security organs have mapped crime hotspots and are now conducting frequent operations. <\/p>\n
The meeting also agreed on wooing more youth to become of members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Crime Prevention (RYVCP), an organization that mainly focuses on community policing, and also involve them in all activities geared toward public safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
