{"id":29571,"date":"2016-10-20T01:50:52","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T01:50:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/police-intensify-crackdown-on-drug-dealers\/"},"modified":"2016-10-20T01:50:42","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T01:50:42","slug":"police-intensify-crackdown-on-drug-dealers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/police-intensify-crackdown-on-drug-dealers\/","title":{"rendered":"Police intensify crackdown on drug dealers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Three people have been arrested in connection with either trafficking or selling narcotic drugs.}<\/p>\n<p>The suspects arrested on October 18 are identified as Sylvestre Nshimiyimana, Bernard Uyisenga and Beatrice Mukarugwiza from Musanze, Nyarugenge and Kayonza districts respectively.<\/p>\n<p>They are all still in police custody pending further investigations.<\/p>\n<p>In Musanze, Police arrested Nshimiyimana with Kanyanga \u2013 an illegal gin banned in Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>He was en route to Nyabihu District where he was apparently to sell it.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was arrested in Nyange Sector in the wee hours by officers in a targeted operation following information provided by the residents, Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Gasasira, the Northern Region Police Spokesperson, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice had received information from residents about Nshimiyimana\u2019s dealing and movements and acted upon it to conduct the successful operation and confiscated the illicit liquor,\u201d IP Gasasira said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccidents, crime, domestic violence, illness, theft, lost opportunity, and reduced productivity are some of the direct consequences of abusing drugs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraffic accidents caused by drug-impaired drivers; crime committed by addicts and resources expended to apprehend and the judicial process are the burdens borne by taxpayers that\u2019s why we keep encouraging everyone to own this fight against drugs. We want to have an active and healthy population as well as relocate the resources to something else that would develop the people further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>IP Gasasira said that drug use erodes human potential and associated with a broad array of antisocial behaviours that limits youth from the outset of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Police in Nyarugenge arrested Uyisenga with four capsules of heroine.<\/p>\n<p>Another suspected drug dealer only identified as Shemsa, is still on the run after police discovered 57 pellets of cannabis in her house in Nyarugenge.<\/p>\n<p>Making and selling of these substances contravenes the law, especially articles 593 and 594 of the penal code, and article 24 of the law governing narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors in Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>Article 24 of the law on narcotics, also states that \u201cany drink that exceeds forty five percent of alcohol and any other drink which doesn\u2019t have the required quality for consumption, shall be considered as narcotic drug.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Three people have been arrested in connection with either trafficking or selling narcotic drugs.} The suspects arrested on October 18 are identified as Sylvestre Nshimiyimana, Bernard Uyisenga and Beatrice Mukarugwiza from Musanze, Nyarugenge and Kayonza districts respectively.
