{The State Minister in the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) in charge of primary and secondary schools, Munyakazi Isaac has directed headmasters to stop the punishment of temporary dismissal of students known as \u2018weekend\u2019 as it negatively affects their academic performance. }<\/p>\n
He has made the call today while addressing headmasters of Catholic Church owned schools in Rwanda in a meeting held at Remera Petit Stade. <\/p>\n
The meeting was organized under the theme \u2018Let\u2019s educate all children perfectly\u2018, meant to discuss education challenges and come up with sustainable solutions. <\/p>\n
\u201cThese punishments must be stopped since they benefit neither the parents, students, nor educators,\u201d said Munyakazi.<\/p>\n
\u201cDismissals may be replaced by light ones that pose no hindrances to the learning process. In our times as students, errant learners would be ordered to mop the floor during break time. This would benefit the student and promote neatness,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He explained that those who won\u2019t comply with the directive will be dealt with. <\/p>\n
The president of Rwanda Catholic Church Episcopal Conference, Bishop Philippe Rukamba has also highlighted that such heavy punishments are not suitable for Rwanda\u2019s education. <\/p>\n
\u201cA child should be given disciplinary sanctions making him\/her feel loved,\u201d he said.
