{Five people suspected of owning illegal distilleries and producing illicit brew, have been arrested in separate police operations conducted on Sunday in the districts of Ngoma, Rwamagana, Nyarugenge and Gasabo.}<\/p>\n
Police also seized illicit drinks from the destroyed distilleries, confiscated equipments they were using to make the illegal brew and 218 rolls of cannabis.<\/p>\n
The suspects are identified as Eugene Mwumvaneza, Anastase Ntamukiranutsi, Jean Bosco Munyaneza and Alphonse Ndagijimana.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, another suspect; Fridaus Uwase, 21, was arrested in Gatare Village of Munanira Cell in Nyamirambo, Nyarugenge District with 13 pellets of heroin.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is part of the Rwanda National Police countrywide intensified operations against drug abuse but with main focus on the suppliers. This is partly because by breaking the supply chain, you will be preventing and dealing with the root cause,\u201d Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said.<\/p>\n
He advised people to deal and consume other legalized alcoholic drinks instead of dealing in harmful substances that threaten people\u2019s lives and wellbeing in general.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe operations will continue and we appeal to the people, our major partners, to continue providing information on the dealers until all those engaged are either arrested or refrain from such criminal activities,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Growing, selling, transformation, transportation, storage and consumption of narcotic drugs are prohibited under article 593 of the penal code and punishable under article 594 with a prison sentence of up to five years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
