{"id":28871,"date":"2016-09-24T05:13:50","date_gmt":"2016-09-24T05:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenyan-envoy-to-burundi-deletes-twitter-account\/"},"modified":"2016-09-24T05:13:44","modified_gmt":"2016-09-24T05:13:44","slug":"kenyan-envoy-to-burundi-deletes-twitter-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenyan-envoy-to-burundi-deletes-twitter-account\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenyan envoy to Burundi deletes Twitter account after backlash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Kenya&#8217;s ambassador to Burundi Ken Vitisia has been forced to delete his Twitter account following furious reactions relating to his tweets.}<\/p>\n<p>The envoy&#8217;s tweets appeared to criticise a UN report that accused Burundi government of human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the UN Independent Investigation on Burundi (UNIIB) said there has been widespread and systemic patterns of violations (which) clearly suggest that they are deliberate and the result of conscious decisions&#8230;&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>UNNIB argued President Pierre Nkurunziza&#8217;s government should stop the violations.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Vitisia said he deactivated his account @kenbalozi following the bullying he received when he criticised the UN for publishing the report at this time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was bringing unnecessary controversy,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I said it&#8217;s timing and findings undermine peace efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I also said the AU human rights officers who are in Burundi should [corroborate] these findings,&#8221; he told the Nation on Friday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-15232 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/eaburundipierrenkuru_282_29-3.jpg\" alt=\"Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza.
