{"id":28855,"date":"2016-09-23T07:14:34","date_gmt":"2016-09-23T07:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/relocating-burundi-refugees-from-rwanda-remains\/"},"modified":"2016-09-27T04:59:12","modified_gmt":"2016-09-27T04:59:12","slug":"relocating-burundi-refugees-from-rwanda-remains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/relocating-burundi-refugees-from-rwanda-remains\/","title":{"rendered":"Relocating Burundi refugees from Rwanda remains hazy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Ministry of Refugees and Disaster Management (MIDIMAR) has said that countries requested to host Burundi refugees currently living in Rwanda have kept silence on the issue. }<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikiwabo announced in July, 2016 that Rwanda was to transfer Burundian refugees to other countries to reduce political blame games.  <\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Refugees and Disaster Management,Seraphine Mukantabana has told IGIHE that talks with the potential host countries are continuing but no definitive conclusion has been made. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hold talks with all ambassadors we meet. Even today, I have been with some ambassadors who say that the request was made when Europe has a problem of many refugees seeking asylum. They neither don\u2019t accept nor deny,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mukantabana has explained that stakeholders will think about other alternatives. <\/p>\n<p>European countries are receiving refugees fleeing wars in their countries like Syria and Iraq and Africa.  <\/p>\n<p>The decision of Rwandan government to relocate Burundi refugees was taken following various reports alleging Rwanda to recruit some of Burundi refugees in the army to capacitate them to overthrow president Nkurunziza, a claim Rwanda denied.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda accommodates over 75,000 Burundi refugees having fled their country from  May 2015 when president Nkurunziza decided to run for third term which culminated into protests and violence. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-15217 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/mahama.jpg\" alt=\"Mahama camp accomodating Burundi refugees in Rwanda \" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-15218 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/minisitiri_seraphine_mukantabana-3.jpg\" alt=\"The Minister of Refugees and Disaster Management,Seraphine Mukantabana\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{The Ministry of Refugees and Disaster Management (MIDIMAR) has said that countries requested to host Burundi refugees currently living in Rwanda have kept silence on the issue. } The Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikiwabo announced in July, 2016 that Rwanda was to transfer Burundian refugees to other countries to reduce political blame games.
