People with adequate means bring torches while others bring oil lamps,\u201d said a woman in Cyabakamyi sector.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been accustomed to bringing candles when going to labour, risking lives of mothers, babies and the general infrastructure,\u201d said Ntakirutimana Eugenie, a mother.  <\/p>\n<p>The director of Mucubira health center, Hajabakiga Pierre said that they have solar panels for powering the necessary facilities and noted that women are asked to bring candles for use in maternity not labour wards. <\/p>\n<p>He however explained that they are sometimes obliged to use candles and torches when it is cold and solar panels could not suck in enough energy. He stressed that electricity availability would address such challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have any problem during sunny periods as we use solar panels.We often meet a serious challenge in rainy season where we use candles and torches, mothers giving birth in darkness,\u201d said Hajabakiga Pierre. <\/p>\n<p>The vice mayor of Nyanza district in charge of economic development , Kajyambere Patrick has told IGIHE that they are planning to avail electricity in the near future in Cyabakamyi sector to solve related matters. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c We already know the problem of electricity shortage. Cyabakamyi is the only sector without electricity in Nyanza district. We plan to allocate part of this year\u2019s budget avail electricity in this sector but it will require to take another amount from next year\u2019s budget.
