{The ongoing crackdown on cattle rustling in the Eastern Province led to the arrest of three men in Kayonza District on September 15, believed to be behind the Wednesday night theft in Nyagatare District.}<\/p>\n
The trio identified as Fred Rugema, James Rutikanga and Celestin Mutaganda was arrested in Gahini Sector where all the ten cows reportedly stolen in Nyagatare were recovered.<\/p>\n
The cows had been stolen from a kraal in Karangazi Sector in Nyagatare.<\/p>\n
The suspects were at the time of their arrest trying to sell the cows to a dealer in Gahini.<\/p>\n
Police Spokesperson for the Eastern region, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi, said that police received information on this specific theft from the victim and that all district units in the region were alerted.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, during the course of investigations and operation, police in Kayonza received information from a man in Gahini, whom the suspects were trying to sell the cows, reporting people he suspected to be cattle rustlers, and that\u2019s how they were arrested and the recovered cows returned to the rightful owner,\u201d IP Kayigi said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCattle rustling is an issue that police in partnership with other security organs, local leaders and the general public, have stood up against; we are happy that the public have actually owned this fight and almost all the successful operations \u2013 arrests and recovery of stolen cows \u2013 are based on credible information police receives from them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Referring to another successful operation earlier this week where other seven cows were also recovered in Kayonza and prime suspects arrested, IP Kayigi said the strong ring-role of the public is the reason the police has recovered all the stolen cattle in the recent past and arrested the prime suspects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
