{In a bid to curb drug abuse especially among the youth, Rwanda National Police extended its awareness against the vice to over 861 students in Nyanza and Rwamagana urging them to be active partners in the campaign.}<\/p>\n
The message was delivered to the students by the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Nyanza Inspector of Police (IP), Jean Baptiste Bizimana and the DCLO of Rwamagana.<\/p>\n
In Nyanza, the DCLO, IP Jean Baptiste Bizimana, while addressing over 400 students of E.S St Esprit de Nyanza reminded them of the dangers that result from abusing narcotic drugs and illicit gin like kanyanga.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbusing drugs can lead you astray including dropping out of school, physical and mental disability; someone who is under influence can easily involve him or herself in unprotected or premature sexual intercourse that could lead Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), and unwanted pregnancies,\u201d IP Bizimana said.<\/p>\n
He urged them to join anti-drugs clubs where they will put ideas together through discussions and debate on effects of drug abuse and jointly raise awareness against the scourge.<\/p>\n
In Rwamagana, the DCLO Inspector of Police (IP) Goreth Uwimana, while addressing about 450 students of G.S Sovu, urged them to be ambassadors of change by refraining from drug consumption.<\/p>\n
She noted that the youth have the ability to drive change through timely information sharing on dealers and abusers.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost crimes like rape, defilement, adultery, theft and assault are committed by people under the influence of drugs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Leandre Muhumuza, a student and head of GS Sove Anti GBV club thanked Rwanda National Police for the lessons delivered to them but went on to ask his colleagues to stand up against drug abuse.<\/p>\n
Benjamin Mugisha from ES St Esprit de Nyanza also thanked RNP and went on to brief his fellow students that the school has three clubs; Anti drugs, Anti SIDA and Anti GBV clubs that constitute \u2018Peace Club\u2019<\/p>\n
