As a beginning, 25 advertizing signposts along Kanombe International Airport road were removed yesterday but plans are underway to remove 80 of them to be re-erected later after designing a new master plan and laws defining their management.<\/p>\n
Talking to the press about the initiative yesterday, the mayor of Kigali city, Monique Mukaruliza said the program of removing advertizing signposts will be extended to other locations. <\/p>\n
In December 2016, Kigali city sent a letter to some owners of advertising signposts requesting to remove them since they were not complying with guidelines of Kigali city advising committee.<\/p>\n
Advertisers were given six months to remove signposts, a call which was not adhered to forcing Kigali city to remove them.<\/p>\n
Mukaruliza told the press yesterday that signposts at Kanombe International Airport were haphazardly erected to the extent that the advertiser would not be seen easily. <\/p>\n
She said that Kigali city will draft new guidelines of how signposts can be erected as they play a good role in guiding visitors about services and locations. <\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone wants signposts back soon. Kigali city is going to make a master plan within a short time. It will take us two days to identify where signposts should be erected,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Talking on criteria to be considered in erecting signposts under new guidelines, Mukaruliza said \u201cWe will consider the distance between a signboard and another and the distance from the road to the signpost. We are taking two weeks to prepare the master plan of how signposts will be erected in Kigali city. This will help us to identify whether a location where a person is requesting permission to advertize is allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tusubira Charles, the representative of associations advertizing on signposts in Rwanda has said that the decision of removing signposts alongside roads will not negatively impact stakeholders since they were alerted on time. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
