{"id":28443,"date":"2016-09-09T01:00:53","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T01:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/anti-gbv-campaign-bugesera-residents-urged-on\/"},"modified":"2016-09-09T01:00:48","modified_gmt":"2016-09-09T01:00:48","slug":"anti-gbv-campaign-bugesera-residents-urged-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/anti-gbv-campaign-bugesera-residents-urged-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-GBV campaign: Bugesera residents urged on ownership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Commissioner for Public Relations, Media  and protocol in Rwanda National Police (RNP) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Celestin Twahirwa has appealed to residents of Bugesera District to be active partners through real time information sharing especially on gender based violence (GBV) and child abuse related crimes.}<\/p>\n<p>He noted that there are some people, who take advantage of other\u2019s vulnerability to abuse them, violate their rights adding that combating  such irregularities requires ownership of every individual and reporting every single case they come across.<\/p>\n<p>ACP Twahirwa, who is also  RNP spokesperson was addressing over 3000 residents of Bugesera on September 8 in an ongoing anti- Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child abuse campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The event was also graced by the Mayor of Bugesera, Emmanuel Nsanzumuhire. It was also attended by Vice mayor Social affairs and the coordinator of Isange One Stop Centres, Supt. Shafiga Murebwayire among others. <\/p>\n<p>The campaign targets areas marked as hotspots to highlight and address challenges associated with GBV and Child Abuse, and to further narrow the Police-public gap in timely sharing of information on any form of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGBV is real and it\u2019s a responsibility for each of us to use the possible means in our midst to eliminate it. This is not a one man\u2019s fight\u2026it concerns everyone,\u201d ACP Twahirwa said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you managed to rebuild the country from the ruins of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, then we can\u2019t fail on this front of eliminating  GBV and child abuse,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSharing such information is a contribution to national development since it helps in ensuring that our societies are safe from any form of violence.
