{"id":28390,"date":"2016-09-07T02:15:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T02:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/psf-in-talks-with-government-over-high-power\/"},"modified":"2016-09-09T02:24:09","modified_gmt":"2016-09-09T02:24:09","slug":"psf-in-talks-with-government-over-high-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/psf-in-talks-with-government-over-high-power\/","title":{"rendered":"PSF in talks with government over high power tariffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The president of Private Sector Federation (PSF) in Rwanda, Benjamin Gasamagera has said that they are holding talks with the government of Rwanda on how to cut down electricity costs since investors pointed it out among challenges affecting investment in Rwanda.}<\/p>\n<p>In August 2015, Rwanda Utility Regulatory Agency (RURA) announced new tariffs of water and electricity where industrial and big consumers became Rwf 126 per kilowatt whereas domestic users\u2019 prices were raised by 35% from Rwf 134 to Rwf 182 per kilowatt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHigh electricity tariffs affect the performance of industries and hospitality services in Rwanda. Electricity users are claiming high cost of electricity affects businesses. It is a matter which goes beyond private investors and reaches the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cElse, we are holding talks with the government seeking measures that can be adopted to reduce electricity costs. Ideas have been shared indicating that we can operate overnight to have prices reduced to the extent that some industries can be classified in particular categories,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next step will be investing enough money in electricity production. We are continuing to organize talks with the government on whether prices may be reduced and is promising.
