{Two people, a mother and her child yesterday drowned in Lake Burera after the canoe in which they were traveling capsized as they were returning to their village from Rusumo market. }<\/p>\n

The dead have been identified as Uwiduhaye Joselyne and her 5-month old baby. <\/p>\n

IGIHE has learnt that the canoe which carried nine people with their luggage succumbed to strong storms before docking. Seven of them survived. <\/p>\n

The police spokesperson in Northern Province, IP Gasasira Innocent has told IGIHE that the boat carried nine residents of Ndango cell who were returning from Rusumo market in Butaro sector. <\/p>\n

He said that life could be saved if passengers had life-jackets. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe incident took place yesterday around 15:00 hours. They made a mistake of not wearing life-jackets,\u201d said IP Gasasira.<\/p>\n
