The bleaching ointments were intercepted on September 1 in Nyirakigugu Cell of Jenda Sector.<\/p>\n
Others intercepted include 44 pieces of Carolight glycerin, also a bleaching agent banned in Rwanda and 50 bottles of Vodka. <\/p>\n
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Th\u00e9obard Kanamugire, Police spokesperson for the Western Province said some other smuggled goods were intercepted in Rambura Sector, also in Nyabihu.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the seized products have been handed over to the Revenue Protection Unit in Rubavu while suspects are also in custody as investigations continue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is why we say that smuggling is harmful; these cosmetics were banned in Rwanda largely because of the quality and chemicals and smuggling brings in deadly consumables of products,\u201d IP Kanamugire added.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt involves putting the government in losses in lost revenues, affecting the local markets due to subsidized prices of smuggled goods and exposes the public to harm due to the quality and standard of some smuggled merchandise.\u201d<\/p>\n
He appealed to the general public to strengthen their spirit of partnership, and called upon those residing near borderlines, to always inform police whenever they see people using illegal borders to smuggle goods.<\/p>\n
