{With seven days left to hold the 12th edition of Kwita Izina, naming new born gorillas in the past one year, Rwanda Development Board yesterday held a Gala Dinner at Radisson Blu Hotel aimed at raising funds to support tourism sector. A total of Rwf 25 million has been collected.

\nThe Gala Dinner was attended by various dignitaries from Rwanda and abroad including investors in the tourism sector and Rwanda government officials.<\/p>\n

Belise Kaliza, the chief tourism officer at RDB said that the realized fund will be distributed to support three projects in the tourism sector.<\/p>\n

The total budget for the three projects stands thus; USD 101,000 for Imisambi Sanctuary, aimed at preserving cranes in the park; USD 180,000 for Mountain Gorilla Skeletal Project, in Virunga National Park while remaining USD 250.000 is needed for the Community Eco-Lodge project.<\/p>\n

Money was raised through selling artistic materials reflective of Rwanda\u2019s culture. <\/p>\n

From the sales, Rwf 20 million was raised from sales of artistic expressions while Rwf 5 million was raised from entry ticket sales.<\/p>\n

Nigerian popular singer Wizkid, born Ibrahim Ayodeji Balogun, who attended the event, bought two artistic batiks at USD 2000. RDB promised to take him around for tours and visit five star hotel built in Nyungwe National Park.<\/p>\n
