{"id":27967,"date":"2016-08-23T01:15:08","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T01:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/60-gender-focal-points-start-training-on\/"},"modified":"2016-08-23T01:14:59","modified_gmt":"2016-08-23T01:14:59","slug":"60-gender-focal-points-start-training-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/60-gender-focal-points-start-training-on\/","title":{"rendered":"60 \u2018Gender Focal Points\u2019 start training on management, leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda has challenged police officers to protect and promote gender equality in areas of their operations.}<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking on Monday as he officiated at the opening of a five-day workshop of 60 Police officers, who act as Gender Focal Points in districts, held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.<br \/>\nMajority of the Gender Focal Points are station commanders.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was organized to empower the officers in strategic management and leadership and one of the major factors for sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>It is in line with the implementation of the RNP gender policy on gender promotion to promote and empower women officers and improve their capacities in decision making.<\/p>\n<p>RNP boosts of a fully-fledged Gender Promotion directorate.<\/p>\n<p>DIGP Marizamunda reminded participants that they represent the institution in implementing its gender promotion policy, among other initiatives, and urged them to be catalysts in the execution process.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda National Police, he said, is committed to Rwanda\u2019s gender policy including attaining the 30 percent minimum threshold for women population in all public institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, women police officers account for over 20 percent of the total RNP population.<\/p>\n<p>He urged them to be defined by discipline, integrity and moral values.<br \/>\n\u201cThe people come to you and look up to you for solutions to their problems and you should handle their issues with utmost professionalism; be exemplary to your subordinates and work as a team in response to the needs of the people,\u201d DIGP Marizamunda said.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will tackle issues related to conflict prevention and management, command and control in police stations, leadership and community policing, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Other topics to be covered include ethics and force discipline, customer care and service delivery;
