{"id":27881,"date":"2016-08-20T02:33:19","date_gmt":"2016-08-20T02:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rnp-arrest-10-over-ivory-trade\/"},"modified":"2016-08-20T02:31:50","modified_gmt":"2016-08-20T02:31:50","slug":"rnp-arrest-10-over-ivory-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rnp-arrest-10-over-ivory-trade\/","title":{"rendered":"RNP arrest 10 over ivory trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Rwanda National Police (RNP) is holding ten people including foreigners, after they were arrested attempting to traffic elephant tusks through Rwanda.}<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Commissioner for Public Relations and Media, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Lynder Nkuranga, said the suspects include six Rwandans and four Guinea-Conakry nationals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects were arrested separately as they attempted to use Rwanda as a transit route to their destination in Asian, with about 80 kilograms&#8217; of partially processed Ivory,\u201d CSP Nkuranga said.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary investigations indicate that the elephant tusks had been smuggled from Tanzania, although suspects claim that they got them from the DR Congo.<\/p>\n<p>Latest reports indicate that most of the smuggled ivory comes from Tanzania, where elephants are said to be endangered due to poaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestigations are still underway to ensure that all those that could be connected to this criminal business, are arrested to face the wrath of the law.
