{"id":27778,"date":"2016-08-17T02:08:36","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T02:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/photos-rwandan-police-peacekeepers-in-south-sudan\/"},"modified":"2016-08-17T02:07:59","modified_gmt":"2016-08-17T02:07:59","slug":"photos-rwandan-police-peacekeepers-in-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/photos-rwandan-police-peacekeepers-in-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"[PHOTOS]: Rwandan Police peacekeepers in South Sudan decorated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 240 Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving as Formed Police Unit (FPU) under the United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNIMSS) were on August 15, decorated with service medals for their outstanding peacekeeping role in the world\u2019s youngest nation.<\/p>\n<p>Among the decorated were 47 female officers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-14281 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/rnp-deco1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The officers were particularly recognized for their peacekeeping role in Malakal region of the upper Nile, where they are deployed.<\/p>\n<p>The medal parade was presided over by the UNMISS Police Commissioner, Commissioner of Police (CP) Bruce Munyambo, who represented the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-14282 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/rnp-deco2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>While delivering the SRSG message, the Police Commissioner commended the RNP peacekeepers for their professionalism and discipline displayed during their one year mission mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is in recognition of your great services in ensuring peace and stability for the people of South Sudan. You served with dignity, dedication and hard work and it is a pride to the United Nations,\u201d CP Munyambo said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-14283 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/rnp-deco3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The message by the SRSG further reads: \u201cWe have been working together for almost one year and as per observation, and without hesitation, you were professionally committed to contributing to the peace agreement for the warring parties in South Sudan to end almost three-year conflicts that cause deaths and displacement of South Sudanese countrywide. Your contribution is highly appreciated and commended to be reliable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The special representative, in the message which was read to the decorated officers, further urged the peacekeeping forces to work together to making South Sudan a \u201cpeaceful nation with sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-14284 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/rnp-deco4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The acting Upper Nile head of field office (HOFO) in Malakal, Hastings Amurani said that Rwanda FPU\u2019s presence in Malakal \u201ccreated enormous value addition to UNMISS Malakal\u2019s protection capacity under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rogers Rutikanga.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> ACP Rutikanga is the contingent commander of RNP peacekeepers in South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is therefore no surprise to us that RNP peacekeepers have been valiant ambassadors of the Republic of Rwanda and an excellent flag bear of the United Nations\u2026Their discipline to the public was always displayed since their arrival almost one year ago,\u201d Amurani said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-14285 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/rnp-deco5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYour courage and patience have been sorely tested in many instances which often put you lives at high risk.
