{"id":27767,"date":"2016-08-16T08:45:03","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T08:45:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/university-boss-found-innocent\/"},"modified":"2016-08-18T02:23:51","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T02:23:51","slug":"university-boss-found-innocent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/university-boss-found-innocent\/","title":{"rendered":"University boss found innocent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Dr. Emmanuel Hafashimana, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration at the former Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education (INATEK) which has recently changed to UNIK has been proven innocent after his arrest in April, 2016 over alleged misappropriation of university\u2019s wealth.}<\/p>\n<p>He was accused of conspiring with Kayumba Patrick, the Director of Finance and Administration at the university who was convicted of the crime and sentenced to one year. <\/p>\n<p>At the time of their arrest, it was said that Dr Hafashimana\u2019s was accused of signing for bills of ghost tenders without verification. Kayumba Patrick was alleged to have forged the tender document.<\/p>\n<p>IGIHE has learnt that Dr Hafashimana who was detained in Mulindi military prison has been declared innocent by the military court.<\/p>\n<p>The information has been confirmed by Rwanda Defense Force spokesperson, Lt Col Ngendahimana Ren\u00e9. \u201cIt is true that he has been released since he won the court case in which he was accused of impropriety. The court found no evidence pinning him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the investigation indicated that Dr Hafashimana\u2019s signature on the said documents had been forged, proving his innocence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe investigation carried by police found that the signature had been forged and prompted the court to declare Dr Emmanuel innocent, \u201che said.<\/p>\n<p>The communications officer at UNIK, Amini Ngabonziza has told IGIHE that they have not yet known if Dr Hafashimana has been released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe university did not sue him.
