{"id":27526,"date":"2016-08-08T01:16:19","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T01:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/four-arrested-over-attempted-bribery-27526\/"},"modified":"2016-08-08T01:16:10","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T01:16:10","slug":"four-arrested-over-attempted-bribery-27526","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/four-arrested-over-attempted-bribery-27526\/","title":{"rendered":"Four arrested over attempted bribery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Four people have been arrested separately for allegedly attempting to bribe security personnel after they were caught in varied illegal activities.}<\/p>\n<p>Three of the suspects are drivers, who are said to have attempted to bribe a traffic police officer to prevent being penalized over road traffic related offences.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers are identified as George William, Thierry Rukundo and Mohamed Abdullah, all who were apprehended on August 6 along Gicumbi-Gatuna highway.<\/p>\n<p>Their bribe ranged between Rwf1, 000 and Rwf2, 000, police said. The trio is currently detained at Byumba Police station.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth bribery suspect identified as Jean Paul Bugingo was arrested the same day in Kicukiro District where he attempted to bribe a DASSO personnel with Rwf200, 000 apparently to turn a blind eye in his illegal construction activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBugingo was at the time found building a residential house in Nyarurama Cell of Kigarama Sector, illegally when he attempted to seduce the Dasso personnel to prevent him from either taking action or reporting the matter to higher authorities,\u201d Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestigations have since found out that Bugingo was also holding a forged construction permit,\u201d Supt. Hitayezu added.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the professionalism of the Dasso personnel and appealed to the general public to refrain from soliciting or giving bribes adding that \u201ca crime can\u2019t be rectified by a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you are caught in illegal or criminal acts and you attempt to find your way out by offering bribes, be ready to face the consequences. Bribery or corruption is a taboo and un tolerable in Rwanda and in police in particular,\u201d Supt.
