Arriving from London this week, John and the Run Rwanda team will spend one month running from Uganda, across the ‘land of 1000 hills’, to the southern border with Burundi.John is an accomplished long distance runner and adventurer, having completed 5 marathons and the infamous Marathon Des Sables through the Sahara Desert. But the run across Rwanda is one of the most important yet, as it also seeks to bring awareness to the strength of Rwanda’s entrepreneurs. }

In partnership with Inkomoko Business Development, a provider of consulting and affordable financing to entrepreneurs across Rwanda, John and the Run Rwanda team will be meeting and hearing the success stories of many accomplished young entrepreneurs.

Run Rwanda is a journey of one foot in front of another, a metaphor for continual progress, up and down the hills of successes and challenges until the goal is met. Similar to the journey of young entrepreneurs, Run Rwanda will document the impressive journey of economic and social progression of Rwanda and its entrepreneurs.

The run itself will take John 211 miles, and he’ll run on average half a marathon each day in the hottest part of Rwanda’s year.Along the way, John will be meeting and spending time with local entrepreneurs across all 5 provinces of Rwanda. Visiting start-ups in tech, solar, manufacturing, eco-tourism, conservation and hospitality, John and the team will be exploring how these Rwandan pioneers are helping to develop Rwanda as a middle-income country.John will help carry these stories to a global audience as he returns to the UK with messages of Rwanda’s most inspiring young people.By bringing global awareness, John hopes to raise funds for Inkomoko Entrepreneur Development and its partner African Entrepreneur Collective.

“John’s preparation for this run shows his commitment to walking the talk. Along the run he’ll see the true spirit of Rwandan entrepreneurs, and how they are on an amazing journey themselves. John will inspire others, and will leave Rwanda inspired by Inkomoko entrepreneurs,” says Julienne Oyler, African Entrepreneur Collective’s founder.

AEC’s Rwandan affiliate, Inkomoko Business Development, was founded in 2012, with the aim of supporting young entrepreneurs to build their skills, expand their networks, and grow theirbusinesses so that they may employ others.
